Exploring Stillness with Children and Young People

A big part of Just this day is the promotion of stillness among children and young people. As a result, there are many schools all over the world who are involved with the day.

Stillness is a universal resource, utterly natural but easy to miss. It enhances our concentration, builds resilience to pressure and calms us. When stillness is practised by a group of students, it can settle the class which can then give them more space to communicate and learn and can have a profound effect on the atmosphere in the classroom.

Are you a teacher?

Have you ever introduced the idea of stillness to your class? It is important that children discover stillness and learn how to access it. The lesson plans below will help you to find an easy and natural way to introduce stillness to your students, to discuss it and to practice it.

We are always looking for new ideas and ways to introduce stillness to children, if you have other lesson plans that you would like to share, please send them to us and we will add them here. Contact us>

Lesson Plans

These lesson plans and ideas are designed for young children. They are simple but imaginative and allow the children to make their own discovery.   The plans build up to a schools assembly on November 23rd when children can be aware of joining together with people from all over the world to be still. Please feel free to send us your own ideas and lesson plans and we will include them below.

Please register your school with Just This Day and we will put it on the map. You can pledge your minutes of stillness in advance of just this day and then send us the record on November 23rd.
