ABOUT
JUST THIS DAY – The Stillness Movement

A letter from the founder, Elizabeth Edmunds:
“If people come together with a single intention, I believe that we could bring about extraordinary change. In 2007, this belief became an idea which brought people from different faith backgrounds together in stillness. A 10 minute silence was held at St. Martins-in-the-Fields, Trafalgar Square, London, joined by thousands of people across the world including HH Dalai Lama and fellow religious leaders in Amritsar, India. People across the world joined together in this simplest of human abilities, the ability to be still. Our goal now is to spread Just This Day even further and get 1,000,000 minutes in 2011. Let’s recognise our common humanity. Let’s be still together. “
What is Just This Day?
Just This Day is a worldwide initiative that aims to bring people together to share one day of stillness every year.
In our fast paced, ever changing, ever moving world, stillness is much needed. We believe that the power of stillness will help our divided world unite because it allows us access to something exciting, deep and universal. Peace for the world starts within each individual and Just This Day encourages us to re-awaken that peace within ourselves in order for it to manifest without.
Every human being shares the capacity to be still. And each and every one of us can contribute stillness to the world, no matter how much or little we have, no matter where we are, no matter what faith we belong to, no matter if we belong to none, we can all offer at least one thing to the world: stillness. Isn’t that wonderful? We think so!
Finding Stillness
People may find stillness in their lives in many ways.
For some it’s found in walking their favourite route, for others in yoga or meditation.
For some in prayer, or in just stopping, breathing and listening.
All are equally valid because the capacity to be still does not belong to any particular way of being still, nor does it belong to any particular faith or belief system.
It is one thing that belongs to us all.
Just This Day gives us a chance to contribute something to the world even for just one minute on just one day.
The Vision
On November 24th, 2010, a total of 70,049 minutes of stillness were pledged and given by individuals, organisations and school children all over the world. Many who took part commented on the power that stillness gives to unite people and to provide deep happiness. Our aim in 2011 is to contribute 1,000,000 minutes of stillness to the world. With your help, we will reach this goal.
Imagine…
Imagine what we could achieve if the whole world stopped together on one day every year and took even just one minute of stillness…
Imagine what that would do?
Imagine how much it would unite us?
